Crucible Theatre, Sheffield
The Crucible Theatre is a theatre built in 1971 and located in the city centre of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. As well as theatrical performances, it is home to the most important event in professional snooker, the World Snooker Championship.
The building was designed in 1971 by Tanya Moiseiwitsch.[1] It was built on the former site of the Adelphi Hotel, which was the meeting place for the formation of the local football teams Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield F.C..[2] It has a 980 seat auditorium with a thrust stage. The building also contains the 400-seat Crucible Studio Theatre Sheffield venue. It is a Grade II listed building.
